Can't help feeling your beef is really with the head honcho at the marshals post Scott, if he knows there are plenty of guys on the infield then he should be held to account for sending his own guys across the track. I can get behind them looking into that.

Oh and BD at the British GP the S/C was not sent out because of a damaged barrier, Kimi in his stricken car - what was left of it - needed the medics to make sure he was ok. The barrier repair delayed the re-start but did not cause the safety car to come out per se.

Nice try John, Charlie is the top honcho in race control, and all the marshal supervisors answer to him.  It doesn't REALLY matter who sent them out, just that the fact they sprinted across the track made the situation dangerous and worth a SC.

I don't think BD said the SC came out because of the barrier, it was more a comparison of what is a dangerous situation and what should be done to rectify it.

Oh look, the poll is now 7:1  :tease: :tease:

I have just noticed that one of the people voting is really, really stupid.....
Me! I pressed 'Red Flag' instead of 'Safety Car'  :-[

The only error, therefore, was instructing the marshals to cross the track.  They should have continued with double waved yellows until marshals could reach Sutil's car from the pit lane side to pull it back and out of the way.  Problem solved.

The safety car is used too readily these days.

No, the other problem was there was a car parked sideways across the track, and at some point someone was going to have to go and remove it.
