Please. not another flaming street circuit.  :nono:

I mentioned Herr Tilke's visit to Vegas in the Austin thread. It looks like Vegas wants to regain the title of Worst F1 Circuit Ever. My advice: bad bet! You'll never do worse than your old Car Park circuit, and even it was better than the cow pasture.

Vegas would certainly have room for a world class road circuit.  It's a city that can handle moving people in and out of big events.

The fact that Vegas didn't work in the past is a limitation on imagination, not anything else that F1 needs.

As a bonus, with so much hotel space, there's no way that room rates get jacked up for visiting fans!

It would offer more options for fans in the way of access, accommodation and entertainment.
Many other circuits we have seen are hard to get too, have nothing around them and offer nothing else.
Vegas would be able to accommodate multi-thousands with ease and has an international airport right there.
Not as bad an option as first thought to see a street race through Vegas.
And they would be able to easily pony-up the cash Bernie will ask.

To really capture Vegas, the circuit should include the Strip, but I doubt they will close their famous main drag for days to run F1. That was part of the reason they ran in Caesar's parking lot, it was easy to close off.

I"m sure that Bernie imagines the cars running through the neon lights of the stip too.  I can't imagine that happening though.  The money it costs to close the strip would amount to the GDP of most countries.

A better location would be the 'neon boneyard'.  Buy up all the old signs, light them up, and you get your gaudy Las Vegas for TV without slowing down the casinos

Am I the only one left who thinks that racing should be about what happens on the track? I really don't care a fat rat's backside about buildings in the background. Maybe the "pretty buildings - boring tracks" model is why F1 is hemorrhaging fans and viewers.

I don't see a problem with having both.  That's what makes Monaco special.

I love the Montreal model of having a purpose built race track nestled right in the middle of all the action instead of building in the middle of nowhere.

I'd love to see a purpose built racetrack in Las Vegas instead of another street circuit.

Totally agree that Vegas would never hand over the strip to Bernie and his pals for 4-5 days.  You'd have the unusual circumstance of Bernie having to pay many millions to compensate the businesses for lost revenue.

There are of course the back roads that parallel the strip behind the casinos, but even those are starting to get crowded with 2nd tier resorts.

No, I agree with Jeri that if F1 was ever to go back to Las Vegas, it should be on a purpose built track, maybe in the foothills outside of town.

...but really, does the USA really need another F1 track?  COTA is up to standard, and if they really need another track, there is nothing better than bringing it back to Indy.

The problem is that Bernie does seem to care more about the pretty buildings than the tracks or the competition.

I'm sure it's an age thing,  :D  I find myself more interested in sight seeing than action when I travel these days.   :-[

Let's assume that Indy is out of the question.  The race must be in a 'world class city'.

It's true the USA is littered with fantastic tracks that would easily present fantastic Grand Prix racing.  However, most of the tracks are relatively remote.  Racers like open space, so it makes sense.

In many ways, Vegas is the natural place to build a purpose built track in a 'world class' city  (yes, we're stretching the definition of 'class').  They've got space.  They've got logistics.  They've got international brand name recognition (I assume).  The city is swimming in money.  The city is used to 'event' type sports like boxing, instead of supporting a local team like most other large USA cities.

In true Vegas class I would be happy if they could hold an F1 race on a purpose built track as long as I can watch it from my table in Hooters!
