Author Topic: Kobayashi and Caterham: What Looks Like The Beginning of The End  (Read 1103 times)

Offline Irisado

Things are looking rather tense between team and driver.  Following on from Kobayashi's claim that he was told to retire a healthy car at the Russian Grand Prix, we now have this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/29658585

Everything seems to point to Caterham trying to save cash.  Reminds me of Hispania at the end of 2012, but at least they were upfront with their drivers.  They told them that they couldn't guarantee the safety of the cars though, and it perhaps is the case that Caterham are not being quite so upfront.

Of course, it could be nothing, but it's very rare for a driver to speak out like this.

At times silence is golden....I think this was
one of those times.Bad mouthing a team is a good
way to end a F1 career.......unless your a superstar

His excuse was the message was meant to be private.  (I'm not a huge user of Twitter, but I wouldn't consider it 'private')

Quite frankly, if a driver believes a team is cutting corners in safety, they should feel safe reporting it to the FIA, and probably the Grand Prix driver's association (does that still exist?).

I'd be willing to give Caterham the benefit of the doubt; that the repair was sufficient.  However, a driver needs to trust his team and his car, and that's not present here.

Given the upheavel at Caterham, I'm not surprised that gaps and rifts will form.  It's unfortunate, but a product of circumstance.  Hopefully they can land on their feet after an off season to get their house in order.
