Can't fault Nico.  He's got an opportunity to become WDC for probably the only time in his life.  He should take full advantage of the rules as they are this year.  Good for him.  :good:

If he does take the title because of double points then his championship will be as hollow as his dad's. Rosberg senior won just one race when he was declared World champ in 1982, all the drivers in 2nd to 6th place won two races each but reliability was a much bigger factor back then.

If Rosberg Jnr gets the title this year we can expect some major tinkering with the points system for the future to make sure no one can take the championship with only half the wins of another driver.

All this will is academic anyways, Nico is just trying to convince himself he can still take the WDC  - some chance.   ;) :tease:

Yes, I'm very much in the 'well he would say that now wouldn't he?' category.  He has lost the psychological edge to Hamilton, and the only way I can see him winning is through a double points win, and a retirement for Hamilton.  I hope it doesn't come to that.  Not because I'm a massive Hamilton fan, but because it would be bad for the sport.

A little harsh to say Rosberg has lost the psychological edge to Hamilton.  Hamilton is about as psychologically frail as they come in F1 - the guy just can't leave his emotions behind.  Until the last race, you could see what kind of a day he was having based on which picture you were looking at.  He's had a couple good races, but Rosberg is a pretty steel-ly kind of guy himself, and I'm not so sure that Hamilton has the season in the bag.

I agree about Nico. It looks like his only shot is the FIA's version of NASCAR's Race to the Chase to the Cup for the Thing.

I do disagree about Keke's WDC being tainted by the fact that other drivers had undependable equipment. Just remember one of the oldest rules in racing: To finish first, first you must finish!

Yeah, it's not so much Rosberg's psychological state in regard to Hamilton, but rather the bosses at Mercedes.  He's driving like he's worn out his welcome and has to prove he belongs.

I've read (I don't have the link off hand) that Hamilton is one of the best a compartmentalizing, and that Hamilton with the helmet on is a completely different person than than Hamilton with the helmet off.

I like a driver who puts everything out there, and is willing to be disappointed.  I'm glad they're not ALL like that, but these perfectly groomed athletes you see on Sports Centre who pretend that winning or losing is no big deal just aren't any fun.
