65 the year Jim Clark could do no wrong
« on: January 25, 2015, 05:32:09 PM »

50 years ago he started 61 motor races, won 32 with 40 podiums.  :swoon:

Here's a great article about Jim's momentous year, hope you enjoy reading it and come to agree with the final paragraph. - For me there will never be better.

I agree with you about Clark. He was absolutely amazing. I'm so glad that he raced during my lifetime.

It was a day when race drivers weren't F1 drivers or endurance drivers, they were race drivers. It was common for top drivers to race multiple classes of cars in a season. Sometimes even in the same week-end.

Clark was much at home in an Indy car or a Lotus Cortina as he was in an F1 car. He even ran a NASCAR 427 cid Ford Fairlane at Rockingham in 1967. Sadly, the car packed it in on the 114th lap.

Totally agree. No modern driver in the same class.   :good: :good: :good:

One of the things that made him so great in my mind is the fact that he never changed teams.  Everything he did in Formula 1 was with Lotus.  I still put him in a class of one.

I was in Indy for that win too.  Amazing race.
Life is short - live each day to the fullest.

I think nowadays because of many sponsor &contracts issues we see drivers indulge into R&B album recording, Triathlon participation or involved in cycling team formation and management. I do believe there are drivers who would love to participate as many disciplines as they could accomodate, but because of such obligation they cannot.

I think had Jim is someone with whom you just fall in love, if you are a racing fan.
Keep running the fast cars, you will be never out of girls
