Gordon to F1
« on: January 26, 2015, 11:43:49 PM »

I don't put much weight in it....he'll be 44 then and a
little past his due date.

He'll need to work hard in more than one series this year then to get the required number of points to get a new FIA super licence for F1.  :D

could play a role

Testing, maybe. If so, probably more to get attention from NASCAR fans and the sporting press over here than because of any expertise in formula cars.

He swapped cars with I think Hamilton a few years ago and
didn't do bad....but I think age is a factor here

I would like to see it happen.  Not because he would be competitive, but I think it would be very good for F1 in building a larger fan base.

The NASCAR crowd don't care much for F1.  One of the biggest reasons most give me is that there is no train, drafting along in more-or-less constant wheel-to-wheel racing.  They don't understand the strategy issues, different tire compounds and some of the rules.

Most of them are not old enough to remember when a Ford was actually a Ford, a Dodge actually a Dodge and so on.  Today's NASCAR is a very different NASCAR than when the old guard with the likes of Richard Petty raced in a run-what-you-brung series.  Most only know the current style of chassis and engines, built by only a few and none of them actually a Ford, Dodge, Chevy . . .

Having Gordon on track in F1 would challenge those NASCAR fans to actually check out what F1 is about and some would perhaps change their narrow-minded thinking.
Life is short - live each day to the fullest.

I would like to see Jeff Gordon in F1, because he is the only guy I know about from NASCAR  :D

NASCAR is a bit of a boys' club, I don't know what kind of relationship Gordon and Haas have.

However, having Gordon associated with the team will be good for PR.  I can't imagine he'll be racing, but in 2016 Gordon is no longer a NASCAR racer, so he'll be free to gladhand in F1 pits/VIP suites.
