New F1 2017 car design envisaged - Video
« on: August 02, 2015, 01:07:25 PM »
Giorgio Piola suggests how reg changes will translate to car design.

The more obvious things I can see - in 2017 cars will be wider than present designs with wider rear wheels. Rear wings will be lower and the beam wing, banned last year, will be reintroduced. The front wing will increase in width, but the shape appears skinnier and pushes forward like an arrow head shape as well, although this may be artistic licence by Giorgio. The shape of the structure around the sidepods will also be more defined by the rules.

Anyone spot anything else?  (Oh and there's no sound on the vid,  it seemed strange to me too.  ;) )

The Y75 wing, better known as the Monkey Seat, over the exhaust is gone, too. See pix below.

Maybe the lack of sound was to demonstrate that both the new cars will be as silent as the current generation.

The changes to the rear would seem to me to make passing even more difficult.
