IndyCar Place Indicator right on the car!

I'm watching the Indy500, and I see that the sides of the airbox has numbers that indicate the place the car is in!  When they're in the pits, it shows the length of the pitstop.

Aesthetically, it's not great (they're all red, so doesn't match the sponsor paint jobs), but I bet it makes it really easy to see what's going on as a fan trackside

It works great for the fans. Many sports car series have done that for several seasons now. They even use different colored numbers to indicate which class the car is competing in.

That is a great feature that I noticed at the Honda GP of Alabama, when I was volunteering there in April.  I really liked it.  It also shows the position the car is running in while on track.

Here's what we're talking about. They light up with red numbers for race position & green for pit stop time.
