If Italy and Canada go I'll have to make a hard
choice about my future F1 viewing

The three races who know the cost of doing business, and aren't willing to budge.

It would be a great time for a rival series to form while these tracks are still equiped for hosting world class events.  People will still go to the races for the show and atmosphere, and if they can knock a few $$$ off the price of admission they'll sell a lot more t-shirts.

It could just be more of Bernie's standard negotiation by threat technique.

I think there could be half-a-dozen races under threat in the next 2 years thanks to the pending recession (and not necessarily the obvious ones). F1 is in for a rough ride.

Formula 1 will be loosing its heritage as well as the charm of it, if they intend to go these three Grand Prix. Germany is already out of context due to its bizarre Hockenheim, Nurbergring deals, while Canada and Italy always seems to be on the brink of exit, perhaps because they don't budge on the pressure by Bernie.

I'd be all in favour of Ecclestone dropping the Russian Grand Prix, but that's not going to happen.
