Apple buying McLaren?!

Apparently Apple has been in talks with McLaren for months, either to buy the team or to at least invest in it (presumably like Mercedes in the past).

The article I read is a technology site, so they're wondering if Apple wants McLaren technology to help their aspirations for self driving cars.

I'd like to see Apple involved in F1, if for no other reason they've got so much cash that Bernie's bank accounts look like pocket change.  Without debating the merits of Apple as a company, they have a lot of cachet and can bring new audiences to F1.  I'd like to see an Apple team take on a Google team.

Could see McLaren partner with Apple, but selling out to them seems unlikely. Still, nothing is impossible.

McLaren Automotive CEO Michael Flewitt has told Bloomberg that the company "is not in discussion with Apple about any potential investment" at the moment. Whether this applies strictly to McLaren Automotive or extends to the entire McLaren Technology Group remains to be seen.

I have a friend who is very into exactly that sort of virtual racing based on NASCAR. Overclocked CPUs and all.
