Hendrick Motorsports has announced the Dale Earnhardt, Jr. will retire at the end of the 2017 NASCAR season. the 43 year old driver has won 26 points paying cup races. He has been voted NASCAR’s Most Popular Driver by the fans a record 14 consecutive years.

This is his 18th season in the Cup series.

I wish his Dad could have retired too...I miss ole Dale.

I always thought one of the weird things about NASCAR was there were guys who would race forever.  It was cool that the sport had room for 'living legends', but it made me wonder how competitive a 'sport' it was if pensioners were going toe to toe with the kids.

Fangio won all five of his WDC's in his 40's. My all-time favorite hockey player, Gordie Howe, was playing in the NHL when he was 52. George Blanda was still a starter in the NFL when he was 48.
