Mercedes-AMG Project One hypercar: F1 for the road
« on: May 31, 2017, 04:56:09 PM »
Merc have released more detail about their new supercar.

Codenamed variously X1, R50 and Project One by insiders, the new AMG hypercar is practically a street-legal F1 racer

At its heart is a turbocharged 1.6-liter V6 engine derived from Lewis Hamilton’s 2015 Formula 1 car and with a thermal efficiency of 43 percent. Compared to the F1-spec engine, the unit has received a bespoke crankshaft, new pistons, and overhauled electronics for the road-going application. AMG head honcho, Tobias Moers, reiterated the engine will last for about 31,000 miles (50,000 kilometers) at which point it will require a rebuild.  :swoon: The V6 idles at approximately 4,000 rpm and has a redline set at an amazing 13,500 rpm…

This electric boost, four-wheel steer hypercar is rumoured to have a price tag of £2.4 million, even at that eye watering price all 275 AMG supercars have already been signed for.

I think this shows the state of the auto market and the uber wealthy that are playing a game of one ups man ship. Sure there will be some of these cars that will never see tarmac and thats a damn shame for us that won't ever see one outside of a display stand at Goodwood. Think back to the Mclaren F1, they couldn't give the last cars away. Now what are they, 10 to 20 million. Nuts.

Surely they should have one as the Safety Car but they're not having mine!  :nono:
