Alonso signs new McLaren deal

Without seats available at Ferrari, Mercedes or Red Bull, I don't think many people are surprised Alonso is sticking it out with McLaren.

My guess is that Renault (the team) will outperform McLaren:  they're more familiar with the engine and have been developing a stable technical team.

I think the most interesting team next year will be Haas.  They started stronger than most expected last year, but now seem to be on target.  Surely they are expecting consistent Q3 appearances and some sniffs at the podium.

It's going to be a tough year for McLaren in 2018, but hopefully a competitive one.  It would be nice to see Alonso making a difference again.

No surprise.  I'm just glad that he's going to stay in Formula 1.  Hopefully, McLaren will perform better next year with a Renault engine.

I predict Honda will work out the bugs and have a
great engine next year and Ferd out guessed himself
again............maybe

Looks like he's looking at endurance racing, too. He'll be doing the Daytona 24 Hours as a warm up for Le mans,

I wouldn’t be surprised at that at all. Alonso has made some bad judgement calls when jumping teams. Bizarrely since the split announcement the Honda unit seems to have come on leaps and bound. Power, race result and reliability all seem to have improved markedly.

Eddie on Ch4 suggested that Mclaren acted on Alonso's demand and changed engines ("Change, or I go" kinda thing).  If that's true and you are right, then Alonso's career legacy will be complete by a lot of really bad decisions.

It's amazing that a double world champion could be considered to have had an unlucky career.... plenty of drivers consider themselves fortunate to get one!

I think if Alonso's luck had been on the same par as Hamilton's when it comes to making the right moves at the right time, he could have easily eclipsed most of Schumacher's records including WDC.  IMO...
