Bottas for Second?
« on: October 31, 2017, 12:26:45 PM »
Bottas is only 15 points behind Seb for second in the championship.  Certainly the two of them will be fighting for those bragging rights, but I wonder if Mercedes will be looking to pad out Hamilton's season, or get that second for Bottas?

Is Hamilton on board with helping out his teammate, or is he going to run up his win tally?

If Hamilton would let Bottas overtake him in Hungary, with the title still very much up for grabs, I think he'll do what he can to help him now. Not only that, but I'm sure Mercedes would love to have a 1-2 finish for the year.

I agree.  I think Hamilton has no need to increase his points total...points are meaningless statistically since they have mucked around too much with them in the past decade, so I don't think he will really care what his annual tally is beyond winning the WDC.

So I think he will help Bottas as long as it makes sense.  He's not going to fall back behind Bottas to hand Vettel a win, but if they are 1-2 towards the end of a race, I am sure he will switch.

Also!
Bottas has to be in a position to be helped.
Lewis has to be in a position to help him!
So although its all a good idea in theory when reality kicks in its not always the same thing.

Hamilton is a racer and he comes to win so I don't think
he'll give up a chance to add to his career win total...I
wouldn't if I was in his shoes
