New F1 Logo
« on: November 25, 2017, 12:52:05 PM »
Liberty Media says it will announce a new logo for F1 at Abu Dhabi this week-end. the current "Flying F1" logo has been around for 25 years. And so another bit of the Age of Bernie goes bye-bye.

That will be interesting.  Branding is pretty tricky.   :DntKnw: :DntKnw:

They did the big reveal at the Yas Marina podium ceremony.

The old logo did look dated. Truth be told, it has looked dated for many years. I haven't made my mind up about the new one. If someone doesn't know it's an F1 logo, they might not recognize it as the characters F and 1.

See what you think:

I like the old one better...If it ain't broke don't fix it

I'm not super impressed with the new logo, but was never particularly fond of the old one.

Obviously I'm no expert on graphic design, but the key to a 'successful' logo is something that can be easily replicated, and the new one can certainly be drawn by any child with a crayon.  There's also plenty of room to colourize the logo, or add graphics to it while keeping it distinctive and recognisable.

The only bit I'm bovvered about is how much has this weird pile of coloured bricks cost to fix a non existent problem.   ::)

It’s dull, and doesn’t even look like F1 unless it’s been pointed out to you by someone who knew it.

Could have done a better job IMO

Agreed Scott.....I'm sure some swanky consultancy firm was given some big bucks for childs play.

It was the same agency that did ESPN's logo, in case you are wondering about the similarities.

For me, it looks like rI rather than F1, which makes it more or less impossible to take the logo seriously. What's worse is the claim from Liberty that this is a forward-looking, digital-friendly logo: on Twitter, it just looks like a big red blob (and for some, a backwards "n" or "rI" or "r1", not "F1" for anyone who isn't a journalist) that harks back to 1968, the 1980s or the 1990s (depending on who you ask). Haven't seen one reaction that indicates the person believes the logo does what Liberty believes it does.

It's not that difficult to get something that matches one's intention (though it's more difficult than the many people who have said "my X-year-old could do better" seem to believe). And it doesn't give me good vibes about how well actions will match words in bigger matters.

Maybe time to bring out F1 Logo Classic, and in a couple years drop the “Classic” and everyone will forget about the c*ck-up.  Worked for Coke  ;)
