Montreal Pulls the Plug on Formula E
« on: December 19, 2017, 12:23:23 PM »
Montreal has pulled the plug on its Formula E race. It looked like the city was going to get stuck for $30 million to stage the race. The organizers also wanted to hold the race downtown instead of at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. That was highly unpopular with the people of Montreal.

Montreal had an election in November, and the Mayor who brought Formula E to downtown Montreal, Denis Coderre, lost to Valérie Plante.  While Formula E wasn't exactly a major issue, it was part of Coderre's policy to spend whatever it took to make Montreal into a 'world class city'.

Without Coderre as a cheerleader, anything 'expensive' is being reevaluated.

If I was a Montrealer I would also reject the idea of a race anywhere else but the race circuit, that's before even evaluating the finances.  |-( |-(
