F1 to Launch Pay Service
« on: February 27, 2018, 10:17:26 PM »
F1 is going to launch a pay to view platform. No wonder they seem bent on making the on-air coverage as bad as possible.

$8 to $12 seems lie a fair price to me if your a
cord cutter. If I didn't already have ESPN I'd consider
it

Finally...now lets see if they get it right (price, content etc...).

I'm not sure the monthly price model is correct - what about summer break and Nov - March?  I would feel a bit ripped off during months when the race count is none or one.  I would prefer if they charged by race weekend.  Might also be a way for fans to 'vote' away race venues they don't like by simply not purchasing them (although I may have answered my own question).

Also, they keep mentioning 'LIVE'.  I would hope there is a way to either save or access at other times other than LIVE.

I could cut my cable and go with this and Sling or YouTube and cut my payment by about 1/2.

If you get Sling it has ESPN. Not sure how they'll cover qualifying and practices though

Most services cover a season with a regular schedule, so they may need to tweak their payment schedule.  However, if they're just using someone else's software, they may only be able to offer monthly/yearly subscriptions.  If the yearly sub is in line with buying five months, I suppose that seems fair.

I also presume that any 'live' content will be available in an archive format.  If they have a full F1 archive, watching old races during the summer break would certainly make the investment worth while.

Sling has 2 basic packages. One has ESPN, but no NBCSP or FOX, the other has those 2 but no ESPN. I could go blue and F1 for about 35/ month, way less than the 100 or so I pay Comcast.

Acorn[mostly British tv],and Amazon Prime mostly for the free shipping.
All totaled about $50 a month

Subscribers will be able to choose the content they view and how and when they access it.

That sounds like content can be viewed at any time. I wonder it they will offer any other content, like factory tours, off track interviews, historical programming and the like.

I have a ROKU with NetFlix, Acorn, and Prime. That's why I'm getting rid of the cable. I hardly watch it except for F1 and other racing.

RR1 admits that the craptastic ESPN coverage is part of their pay scheme:
