I haven't been to a hairdresser since I was 6, because I find getting haircuts (even the every-few-years trimming of split ends my parents insist is essential) painful. My parents have accepted that they will have to do any trimming they want to do of my hair themselves, and accept it will take about an hour and a half to do a minor trim.

The "fashion" comment is based purely on the increase in this 'do(n't) seen on the heads of teenagers and twenty-somethings around town. They probably tell their barber "do it like all my friends already have it" or something...
