Mystery Paddle
« on: April 24, 2018, 07:46:01 AM »
Oooo....Ferrari have a new "mystery paddle"

https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/mystery-surrounds-vettels-secret-third-paddle-1029436/?s=1

Given the wit on here I think we open this up for suggestions as to it's purpose.

My guess......deploying the Verstappen deflector shield!

Over to you lot.....

... I'm thinking it's a mini barber's clipper and that's our explanation on Seb's 2018 bowl cut, *cough* ... designer haircut!!

When the cameras are switched off, Seb leans his head sideways against the wheel, only to result in perfectly groovy haircuts every time - after he removes his crash helmet of course, that would just be plain silly!!!

All the best,
Cal :)

I think it turns his car into a spiked obstacle.  Potentially for Verstappen but more likely for the next time he wants to ram into Hamilton.  More spikes make more damage.  Imagine something out of a James Bond movie.

I'm not sure what purpose it served in the opening 2 races of the season.   However, Ferrari officials have released a statement, well, a press photo, showing what occurs to Seb's Ferrari when that Paddle is engaged ...

I think it is to change the engine mapping. Not his own  - Kimi's, to slow him down if he gets too close.

Judging by the form of Kimi this season, I think this is the most plausible explanation  :good:

My vote goes to a smoke generating system, either to start or stop the billowing clouds.

The purpose for this system is as shrouded in mystery as Seb's manic hairstyle.    :D

.. it could also be as simple as Vettel's "Party Mode" when the Paddle is engaged ... so some fast paced German techno music bursts into life!!!  (or maybe Haircut 100) ???

How can Kimi's form be rated when he doesn't play on a fair
field. There's various races to back this up. Monaco for one

Think  you hit it Cos...it activates a rev limiter in Kimi's
car if he pulls within 5 seconds of Vettel

That is kind of what I was alluding to.  Kimi seems to go in and have a good race and then 'mysteriously' drop off.  Hence, the Kimi paddle on Vettel's wheel affecting Raikkonen's pace.  Disappointing as he has been the better driver at Ferrari in my opinion.

He'd have had 3 podiums if Ferrari hadn't screwed up his pit stop
at Bahrain ....sure Vettel was happy though
