I can see Kimi hanging around the grid until no one wants him.  Obviously he wants the competitive car, but I think as long as he's enjoying himself, he'll be in an F1 car.

Once he is no longer an eligible 'backup' driver, you feel that either the sport will no longer require him, or he will have no desire to stay in F1.

All the best,
Cal :)

Not so sure about just hanging around the grid until nobody wants him.  I think he probably doesn't mind doing one year contracts with the big 3 if they want him, but I doubt we will see him driving at Sauber or Williams.

... but I doubt we will see him driving at Sauber or Williams.

Definitely not!!! ... some drivers will stay in F1 no matter what (Damon hill with Arrows for 1 small example) ... but Kimi would possibly sign a 1 year deal with a mid field team at worst (Renault, Force Pink) ... but if there is no seat available in the top 3/4 ... he is gone and he has already hinted that after 2019, it's bye bye Iceman.

Also, he has talents in other disciplines, so like many ex-F1 drivers, there are option out there, should he want to continue racing.

All the best,
Cal :)

I don't think Kimi will drive for any other F1 team. More likely, he'll be a Ferrari driver this year and next, then will gracefully transition into whichever racing series looks the most exciting when Charles Leclerc is ready to join (assuming Charles is indeed ready for Ferrari at that point - they're notoriously cautious about these things, and I wouldn't rule out the possibility of Kimi staying until the end of 2020 for this reason).

Is it possible to tell when Kimi is enjoying himself?

Well, there are a few hints in this video clip, but it's a very Mwah rare thing from the Iceman ... I am sure I caught a smile, grin or even the early developments of a laugh breaking through at a couple of moments?

Yes. The trick is to look at the corners of his eyes, not his mouth. (Unless he's laughing - that really gives the game away).
