Title: F1 Heading for Hanoi, Miami & Buenos Aires?
Post by: cosworth151 on March 02, 2018, 03:33:13 PM
German news outlet Auto Motor und Sport claims that Hanoi & Miami have a lock on races for 2019. They also say that Liberty Media are trying to get a race at the old Buenos Aries circuit.

I'm all for F1 going to new places (or back to old places!)

I would hope they get dedicated tracks, but I'd like to see more Montreal/Melbourne style races that are on part time race tracks in the hearts of the city that aren't city streets.

I don't know much about Hanoi, or Vietnam in general, but Miami is a vibrant city with an excellent car culture.  F1 should fit like a glove there.

The trouble is, Miami will be the same snooze fest street circuit the
Formula E uses.

Still no idea how Montreal f'ed up and put the e-race on a street circuit with the island literally right there and ready to go.  At least it was a disaster that is unlikely to be repeated.

I wish successful street races would lead to permanent road tracks, though I guess we're a long way away from the days Daytona was run on city streets.

Oh well.

It was just announced that the Monaco E-prix would use the full F1 circuit.

How many people go on about how Monaco would never be approved as a modern F1 race because the course just doesn't make sense for spectators or safety?

I guess the FIA doesn't care, or else those of us who have made the comment are flat out wrong.

Or Formula E requires Grade 2 safety features (the speed shown on camera can be somewhat deceptive) and F1 requires Grade 1?
