In a bit of computer wizardry we can see a young Jean Ragnotti in the original A110 racing the older Jean Ragnotti in the new A110-50:

I am very impressed with Renault cars.

Last time in the UK I rented a Renault Laguna and was blown away by the car. Very quiet and powerful diesel engine and very comfortable luxurious interior.

North American manufacturers could certainly learn from the European manufacturers in regards to diesel power, efficiency and quietness.
Not too mention emmisions.

I wish Renault sold into the North American (Canadian) market.

One of the biggest impediments to diesel cars here in the States is the tax structure. Since diesel has long been considered as "big truck" fuel, the government taxes it that way. As a result, diesel is far more expensive than gas.

It is very comparable to gas here in Canada and in some cases can be found cheaper. But with the savings per mile with diesel, it works out cheaper to run a diesel car here.
I had a Volkswagon Golf diesel and made it 1100 km on a tank once and I was not taking it easy. That's almost twice what gasoline would do.
