Formula 1's only North American team has opted to use a transverse gearbox in its Type 1 Grand Prix car. The transmission which is being built in house with the collaboration of local specialists EMCO, was selected for reasons of packaging and is unique in modern F1.
Racecar Engineering journalist Jonathan Ingram was shown the design when he took time off from tha NASCAR media tour last month.
The USF1 Type 1 is likely to have more suprises in store, the full design will be revealed in the March issue of Racecar Engineering Magazine - which will be available here on the 12th Feb.
