'Our Nige' to take a stab at Le Mans
« on: February 04, 2010, 01:08:45 PM »

Seems like this is the year for ex champs to pull their helmets back on again. Should be enough room in an LMP1 seat even for middle age spread. :D

Nigel Mansell has had his entry to drive in this year's Le Mans 24 Hours confimed after linking up with British sportscar team Beechdean Motorsport.

Mansell's sons Leo & Greg will contest the Le Mans Series in a  Ginetta-Zytek LMP1 car, run under the Beechdean Mansell Motorsport banner, with Nigel set to make it a family affair by joining the pair for the Le Mans 24 Hours.

How long has it neen since he's drove
in a race John?

I think his last proper drives were in the 'Old Gits series' GP Masters in 05 & 06 and run in the GT championship at Silverstone in 2007 in a Ferrari 430.

He did a few test sessions in various cars last year.

Just goes to prove you can't hold a good man down.

Mansell the Elder and I are the same age. (56)

Notice to LeMans teams: I have my own helmet and driving suit. I work cheap.  ;)

I read the news about Mansell's participation too. He is still living legend! it is a shame that i didn't watch f1 in 80s when he battled against Senna and Prost. Do you remember those times? I have one F1 books that tells about former drivers, Mansell is in that book too.

Gato, take a look in the F1 History section, you should be able to find some in there.

I'm old enough to remember that era, Gato. I started following the sport back in the early 1960's.

WOW! I wasn´t even born then :(. You must have great video collection of every race! :tease: In my opinion old time races were better because it was not so much politic and rules changing not to mention about scandals like in Singapore GP last year. It was more racing and drivers surely enjoyed it more. :D

:DD :DD :DD...it was good pic! i remember one old article from Autosport mag where car racing started that way like in your picture. there was a picture where were horses and riders like in your pic. I have one book by Poul E. Knudsen that tells those times when slaves raced with horses. It was time of Roman imperium. Do you remember langobards and Gallia? Now we can't imagine those times when we see modern f1 cars now! :-[
