New Michelin tires
« on: March 14, 2010, 11:16:35 PM »

These tires are made in Greenville, South Carolina, USA

SEE THROUGH TIRES Radical new tire design by Michelin.

The next generation of tires.  They had a pair at the Philadelphia car show.

Yes, those are 'spoke' like connections to the inner part of the tire from the outside tread 'wrap!' The next picture shows how odd it looks in motion.

Makes you wonder how the ride feels doesn't it?

These tires are airless and are scheduled to be out on the market very soon.

The bad news for law enforcement is that spike strips will not work on these.

Just think of the impact on existing technology:

A. no more air valves.

B. no more air compressors at gas stations.

C. no more repair kits.

D. no more flats.

These are actual pictures taken at the South Carolina plant of Michelin

But where will they put the white sidewalls?

Seriously, I wonder how they handle.

I read about those a couple years ago... originally a military design, they've been working on getting them ready for passenger cars.

My guess is the first generation will be a little mushy, but fine for most people.

I wish i had them last year.  My father in law moved to a new house in a new neighbourhood, I got 4 nail punctures driving through the construction zone.

Jeri 4 flats.I've been lucky in over
30 years I've gotten 1 flat from a
job site.

On a side note I've had Michelin's on
my truck for the past 6years.Best tires
I've ever had,did have to add a chicane
on the expressway exit though

I wonder what they cost?

I bet it's going to be a scam.  They're probably cheaper to manfacture, and they can't charge for 'valve stems' and all that.

Probably a $10 premium per tire, despite a 30% drop in manufacturing costs.  (Without two walls, they're probably a lot cheaper to ship)
