Ayrton was also one of my favorites, but different era's and machines always breed a hero, I still think it's down to personal choice.

Thanks for posting that Ian.  :good: I enjoyed the Senna stuff but particularly enjoyed seeing again the onboard of Fangio lapping in the Maserati and James asking for a fag after his British GP victory. :D

That's quite a frank response from AS....you race to win, his trademark, but somehow, I see that steely determination from a certain Lewis Hamilton, sorry but just my own thoughts...utter determination, self belief and controlled aggression, well perhaps not so controlled in one or two races in the past", but time is on his side!! :good:

You race to win......

...and that is what made this guy so exciting to watch even though sometimes he pushed the 'rule' a little too far.......

thanks Chris, a good find mate.

Senna had to climb up the ladder. He did it the hard way. I still remember him in his days at "Toleman", even then he was competitive.

At the risk of being repetitive, I am proud to say that I had the great fortune in 1981 of meeting Ayrton Da Silva as he was then called.

He was in the throws then of moving from Formula Ford where he was totally dominant, into Formula 3, where he was also to dominate.

I joined my friend and Formula Ford racer Don Hardman at a test day at Donnington Park. We left Don's house in Leicester nice and early, in his truck loaded with Formula Ford car and plenty of bits, in readiness for a day's testing.

Donnington was a hive of activity that day, and i had a field day photographing suspension details of the great variety of single seaters present. In Malta my brother David was at the time building his Datus - a Lotus 907 engined hill climb single seater, so any ideas on the latest suspension tweaks would be more than welcome.

The garage next door to ours was taken up with 3 prestine white Formula 3 cars. Eddie Jordan had brought them along to test a couple of up and coming drivers for his F3 team.

During a break Don moved over to the Jordan garage and chatted with various people, including Eddie himself, and a couple of young drivers I didn't recognise. Then he called me to introduce me to this young lad. "This is my friend Ayrton da Silva from Brazil. He's a bugger to beat". I shook hands politely and continued photographing details of the F3 cars.

Little did I realise who I had just been introduced to, but I have never forgotten Don's words.
