Ah Crap! I've lost my keys
« on: January 04, 2007, 09:29:59 AM »

A 48-year-old man in Berlin had to be rescued by police after he was discovered wedged in a drainage pipe.

The man had apparently been attempting to retrieve his car keys from the drain after removing the manhole cover when he fell into the system, according to a bystander.

Police at the scene discovered him wedged in the pipe after initially being unable to find the German. Reuters reports that it took three officers to pull the unnamed man from the pipe.

During his time in the drainage pipe, the Berliner swallowed a good deal of tasty drainage water and eventually lost consciousness.

Once they had pulled the middle-aged motorist from the drain, a quick smack on the back from the police got him breathing again and coughing up the water he had swallowed during his pipe imprisonment.

Unfortunately for the driver, the car keys that he had gone searching for were not found, meaning they are likely still stuck in Berlin's extensive sewage system, which runs for more than 9,000km.
