Nothing wrong with putting all the ideas on the table.

If this attracts manufacturers to the sport, it's at least worth discussing

BMW once had a 1500cc turbo 4 that put out 1000-1200 bhp. If they allow THAT, I'm in. :yahoo: :yahoo:

Remember, that was with 80s technology! I don't really believe in keeping costs down either. The 3 or 4 teams with the biggest budgets are at the front anyway. the IRL is a complete spec series and the teams with the most money still win the championships even if the little guys can steal a race now and then. If you want to save a bit of money, drastically reduce the down force. No diffusers, low noses, smaller wings. Then ban pneumatic and hydraulic valve springs to reduce the revs. A thousand bhp with about 300 kilos of down force and we would find out who can really drive.

Couldn't agree more.  There's more than enough money in F1, it just needs to be redistributed.   >:(

I am not an engineer, but why F1 appears to be moving backwards to the turbo-engine era in the 80s instead of moving forwards with the latest technology (example: KERS)! :DntKnw:

Could it be that F1 is ruled by old duffers of a certain age?  ;) :D :DD :DD :DD

1.5 Turbos sounds like back(ards) to the future to me.

V8 to V4 Turbo seems like an advancement to me (even though it's been done before - V8's were done before that).  KERS is little more than a booster (push-to-pass button if you like), fancy tech, but is it really worth it?  I don't know.  If they really want to go forward, they would figure out a way to get better fuel mileage, or burn a cleaner fuel.

A number of manufacturers think a turbo 4 will be the performance engine of the future. Hyundai's new Sonata has no 6, electing to go with a N/A 4 standard and a turbo 4 optional. Turbo 4 engines in F1 would be moving back to closer to production engines. Personally I don't care what they run, open it up to all configs. Just increase the power.

KERS doesn't have to a push to pass, it could be a simple fuel saving system.  (I'm pretty sure a Toyota Prius doesn't have a 'push to pass' mechanism).  I think KERS should be completely unlimited for now - the problem last year wasn't KERS, but rather the limits placed on KERS.  The system was capable of generating more power than was allowed.

(Perhaps require standard dimensions, and the requirement to provide it as a customer unit at a good rate)

Turbo Power has in this day and age been perfectioned to the Maximun. Maybe it is worth perusing.....Seeing that it will keep the costs down. That is the main aim , I suppose.

I would personally like to see high revving V12's back in F1. What a sound, as one of the comments on Youtube said "That's not a engine sound, that's god clearing has throat".  :good:
