That was the first points paying British win. Remember, not all F1 races awaded championship points back then.  ;)

i was just being a bit tricky!  ;)  I had just finished reading the article "Connaught Broke the Ice" in an old Automobile Quarterly.

Right you are, David! Your turn for a question.

If you are counting non championship F1 races ERA scored two successes in 1950 the first in June with Bob Gerard piloting an R14B for the win at the British Empire Trophy race, Douglas, Ilse of Man. The second came in August when Cuth Harrison won at the Sheffield Telegraph Trophy, Gamston, Nottinghamshire also in an ERA. A month later in September BRM also came home first at The Goodwood Trophy with Reg parnell at the wheel.

The same man Bob Gerard brought the ERA R14B home in first at the British Empire Trophy in 1948 & 1949, but Formula One did not officially begin until 1950.

huh, where did that question go - the one about the worst qualifying team in F1?

from bleacher report.com:

for more please go to: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/204174-formula-0-the-5-worst-teams-in-formula-one-history

Number 5: Coloni

Nationality: Italian

Years in F1: 1987-91

Pricipal: Enzo Coloni

GP Entries: 81

DNQ/DNPQ: 67

Best Result: 8th, Canada, 1989

This well-run team lasted four years in Formula One. A partnership with Subaru and a shoe-string budget resulted in Coloni being crowned the DNQ/DNPQ kings.

From 1950 to 1960 the Indy 500 was an official race for the Formula 1 World Championship. In those 11 years only one European Formula 1 driver raced in Indianapolis. Who

1960, Sir Jack Brabham, Cooper T53, finished 9th. The car is now in the IMS Museum. Here's the pix I took of it there. This pix, and others from the Museum, are in the Gallery Section here at GP Wizard.  :good:
