I think Gethin had the lead in a earlier
lap John,we'll wait a few days and then
I'llpost what I think is the right answer

According to his profile on ESPN F1 Gethin only won that one F1 race and only took the lead on the last lap.

The diminutive Peter Gethin provides a good quiz question in that while he won one grand prix in his 30-race career, he never actually led a race for an entire lap. His success in Italy in 1971 was remarkable; he stormed through from fourth going into the final lap to win by a wheel, recording the fastest average speed in F1 history (a record broken by Michael Schumacher 32 years later). It was his only podium finish.

Maybe there are two drivers who can claim this same feat.  ;)

After thinking about this some more Dare are you referring to the crazy Monaco Gp of 1982, Patrese was the winner and only finisher on the lead lap as everyone in front of him either ran out of fuel or crashed? Patrese inherited the lead somewhere in the penultimate lap 75 and went on to complete the last lap, 76, completely unapposed for the win, 2nd and 3rd went to Pironi & De Cesaris who both stopped on track on lap 75.

I still think Peter Gethin fits the criteria of your question.  :P

John here's the way it was worded in the site
I found "Italian driver Giancarlo Fisichella was the only driver in the history of F1 race who won only the last lap of the race and won the entire race in 2003."

Maybe it meant the year 2003?Anyway your answer is
fine with me,your turn

The 03 Brazil race was red flagged with 15 laps remaining because of the weather, Kimi was given the win on the day and Fischi was awarded the win a week later after a court case, another crazy race like the 82 Monaco race.

Right next question:-

Our Bernie tried his hand at driving in F1 in the dim and distant past, name year, races entered and results of Mr Eccelstone's efforts?

Was it 1958?
The Monaco Grand Prix and failed to qualify?
I can't think of anything to write here.

That's most of the answer aazz, Bernie also entered the British GP as well in 1958 but again as he was not up to speed & never took the start, Jack Fairman stepped into the car instead on race day.

It's astonishing with his driving record that Bernie usually doesn't appear in Formula One rejects lists, I guess his fat wallet scares off attention. ;)

Your go with a question aazz.

Maybe Bernie couldn't reach the pedals.
