Ferrari's plot was much more subtle than that. It wasn't the bar code that was supposed to remind people of ciggies. It's the smoke that keeps pouring out of the back of the car!  :D

:nono: That's not very nice now is it.

You got to admit David that that was a funny jibe without malice.  :good:

I didn't say it wasn't funny, I wish I'd thought of it.  :DD

It just isn't very nice.

Ferrari drivers still have the barcode all over their overalls and helmets as well.   :nono: :nono:

I've just ran the Ferrari barcode through a sophisticated computer barcode scanner and it actually translates to "SUCK IT BERNIE"!  :yahoo: >:D
Kimi's back! Future double WDC.

And all this time I thought it said "We Love You, Max!"   :D :D

Hey, Ferrari was quite clear that the bar code changed over time.

There's room for more than one message.

What else might they have encoded?

"Kimi 4 Ever"

then:

"Kimi 4 Never"

It's a shame they had to remove the barcodes, I mean I think that their pit stops will be a lot longer now as they are no longer self service.  ;)

I think the last message was 'Luca loves Alonso'

I think the ad ban is a bit "Big Brother". If someone wants to smoke they will. Most of the smokers I know have switched to generics anyway, because Marlboros are too expensive. If they want to spend money to back sports teams let 'em.

The concern isn't adults making adult decisions, but rather children who are assumed to idolise athletes.  If that fancy red car wins a lot of races, maybe that means Marlboro is really cool.

Obviously it should be up to parents/authority figures to help children make informed decisions, but in countries with socialised medicine, we've all got a stake in making sure kids grow up healthy.

So, I agree that it's 'big brother', and that adults should be exected to act as such - but as a parent, anything that makes my job easier is welcome.

I don't think advertising comes into it, if your kid is gonna smoke it's probably down to peer pressure.
