McLaren CanAm Car

They call it "A Minute's Noise."

For the 40th anniversary of their founder's death, McLaren fired up one of his all-conquering CanAm cars. It's powered by a big block Chevy V8.

The sound of a classic CanAm race was unforgettable!

Very special Chevy. To get it out to 500 ci they cast it in a special silicone aluminum alloy. They then acid milled the bores to remove a few thousandths of a inch of aluminum leaving a very hard silicone surface for the pistons to run against. No cylinder liners!! McLaren himself said it was good for about 800 bhp and any improvement to the top end to try to increase the power just made it spit the crank out the bottom end.
