What I've been up to the last 2 weeks
« on: July 02, 2010, 06:24:46 PM »
I have been pretty much undercover lately with my latest RC project. Thought some of you might want to take a look. This is what I've always wanted to do, put cameras (good ones) in the air for photos and video. Photos will come first as it looks like video cameras with optical image stabilization (OIS) are no good for aerial photography (AP). Even when your turn off the OIS the gyros attached to the lenses are highly susceptible to the high speed vibrations from the motor.
I sent my HD camcorder up on the 2nd flight and got 15 minutes of blurry crap not even worth posting. What a disappointment! And let me tell you I was more nervous than a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs.

Anyways, enjoy!

Wow - quite a beast you've built, Darrell - when I first saw it, I thought your camera mount was either for a sling-shot take off, or a carrier landing hook (but you'd put the hook at the wrong end!).

Can't wait for the aerial video.

Man! Those pics are great. If you can get video as good as that it will be fantastic.
