Frenzen Retires
« on: August 24, 2010, 04:28:34 PM »
Former F1 driver Heinz-Harald Frentzen has retired from racing. The 43 year old German had his last regular ride in the 2008-09 Speedcar series.

Heinz-Harald was an asset to F1 when he was there. Good luck to him in whatever he does next.

Frentzen never quite lived up to early expectations, and still had an interesting career.

Just shows that there is more to F1 than talent.

Indeed. As Montoya found out, you need a team willing to follow your lead in development and set up. Apparently there is enough difference between Schumacher and Button that they can't really drive each other's car, ditto for a few other teams. I'm sure that part of Massa's problem this year is Ferrari dancing to Alonso's tune and not Felipe's.

It makes me think of Webber, too. He showed so much promise early on, then years of frustration at Minardi, Jag & Williams. I'm glad he's finally in a situation where he can rise to the top.

Frentzen had the same problem with Villeneuve's team at Williams.

He did put in a fantastic season at Jordan though.  Probably one of the last times we've seen someone put a car much higher in the standings than it deserved to be.

I remember him from F1 times. 43 years is rather high age to race so I suppose that he has raced at least 30 years (starting from karting series). What are his future plans now? To establish an own team, help new german drivers to climb into F1 or other serie or change sport and take easy?
