Yamamoto to replace Senna for Silverstone
« on: July 08, 2010, 10:04:26 PM »

Wow! This is a suprising development as all the talk surrounding driver changes at HRT has been focused on Chandock over the last month or so.

By Jonathan Noble and Matt Beer Autosport.com, Today

The Hispania team has dropped Bruno Senna for the British Grand Prix weekend, in a surprise move on the eve of the event.

Test driver Sakon Yamamoto will race alongside Karun Chandhok instead.

HRT boss Colin Kolles confirmed to the BBC that the change would take place, but further details of the driver switch will not be released until Friday morning.

Kolles added that Yamamoto only had the drive for Silverstone at present.

"A decision as to who will drive for Hispania for the rest of the season will be taken over the weekend," he said.

Yamamoto's racing debut for Hispania will mark his first Formula 1 start since his stint with Spyker in the second half of 2007.

Now that's a surprise.

Yamamoto also drove for Super Aguri in the latter part of 06, replacing Yugi Ide and Franck Montagny.

I think is is also one of only two driver to start F1 races who's surname starts with the letter Y. The other was Alex Yoong.

Wonder if Bruno's finances fell through?

It must be finances as I cannot remember Yamamoto showing any more speed or talent than Senna.

At least they've decided against going with a stone cold rookie.  (Not that it was a problem with Kobayashi...)

With a bit of seasoning and a better car, I suspect Kamui might be quite good. Time will tell.

I heard it reported on the broadcast that Senna will be back for the next race.
