Austin WILL Deliver!!!
« on: August 02, 2010, 09:17:35 AM »
this fascinating piece is written by mike LAWRENCE, comes from PitPass.com and details why this project is a real 'goer':

It does meet several of Bernie's requirements:

1. It's in the middle of nowhere.
2. It's another boring Tlke turd.
3. It has absolutely no history or tradition of racing.
4. It will be so high priced that no one will be able to afford to attend.
5. Say "Austin" to most people, and the response will be "Where?" (Or, "You mean Stone Cold Steve Austin?")
6. It replaces a truly great race that F1 desperately needs to have on he schedule.

heck mate, I do hope this race track gets built - F1 needs a well marketed event in the USA and I'm hoping this will become a magnet 'must-see-event' for American motor sport fans.

I'd go to it as my lady friend lives just up the road in Snook, which is close to the A & M University at College Station - and that's 8,000 miles from where I now live!

Austin sounds like a cool town - I would actually make the attempt to go there if I was in North America...but I'd still rather go to Indy.

I've been to F1 races at The Glen, Long Beach, Detroit, Dallas, Phoenix, Las Vegas and Indy. As most of you know, I'm a hard core F1 fanatic. Even I won't pay three times what I paid for my tickets to Indy, plus three to four times what I paid for a room, to sit in blast furnace heat & watch a no overtaking parade around a Tilke turd!

F1's reputation here in the States is bad enough. That largely came from a series of horrible tracks - Dallas, Phoenix and the Car Park Grand Prix of Las Vegas. The last thing it needs is another Shanghai parade ground in a far corner of the country.

hey cossie, put ya mind at rest mate and read the article:

http://www.pitpass.com/fes_php/pitpass_feature_item.php?fes_art_id=41588

note particularly that the main man behind the project, an ex racer named tavo HELLMUND, has been associated with motor racing events and bernie ECCLESTONE since being a 'gofer' for BRABHAM when bernie owned the team. He was consulting with bernie even before Indy put on its first F1 GP and hermann TILKE has been on board for over 30 months.

You will like tavo saying he has had to remind hermann who is employing whom.

It is a massive undertaking which the article spells out in fascinating detail and I hope it succeeds - can't do much about the heat though except perhaps stage it when the temps are below 100 F!

If they put it back to back with Canada, it will be hot. We can bet on whether any of the engines will last, and see if the teams bring oversize radiators for the cars. Tilke may have another Turkey in him, but I wouldn't bet on it. Hey, he's what 1 for 6 or so? I doubt that Austin is ready for the kind of crowds that F1 should bring to town. Oh well.

I consider that the fact that Hellmond is one of Bernie's minions from way back to be another reason to despise the whole idea. I take no comfort in the idea that Tilke takes his orders from Hellmond, when Hellmond takes his orders from Bernie.

I've been to Austin many times. It's a nice town that can't even handle it's normal, workday traffic. It's one of the few cities in the country that doesn't even have an outer belt (by-pass) freeway. There is just I-35 that runs straight through the middle of down town. Even on a normal day, I could count on it taking 1-1/2 to 2 hours to travel the four miles through that area.

I'm very much looking forward to attending the 2012 US GP even though it is a far longer drive then to Montreal, (witch i still plan on going to next year). I have faith that it will be a spectacular event and that Americans will attend in high levels!

No doubt 2012 US GP is going to have a great event for Americans.
