F1 2010 - Are you ready for it?
« on: September 20, 2010, 08:31:59 AM »
Dusted off and formatted a recently retired 300GB HD and installed Windows 7 x86 and video drivers. Made it nice and lean and mean with most services turned off. Got the force feedback wheel working nice again and am honing my chops with "Race On" and "GTR Evolution".

NOW ALL I NEED IS F1 2010!! They keep sayin' Sept. 22 so a few more days to go!  :yahoo:

I've gleaned together a bunch of screen shots from actual in-game footage on the Xbox 360 but the PC should be as good or better. If it comes even close to Grand Prix 4 for gameplay I'll be in heaven.

For me the only way to play any PC racing sim is in cockpit mode and the screenshot from inside the Force India car is enough to make your jaw drop. mmmmmmmmmm thats good motion blur!  :good:

Some great screenshots there Darrell, I'm waiting too, I'm also chomping at the bit for GT5 in November, so they say.

Wow, after someone said they had a PC meltdown, I guess someone has picked up some new bits.  7.1 Surround?  I'll be happy with external speakers on mine.

Nah Scott, it was a HDD corruption... no other hardware was affected.  I've had the speakers for a couple years now.  Got the sound card to support the output last year.

Just a heads up for those playing on a console WITHOUT a wheel. You will probably not have a positive experience other than drooling at the pretty graphics as you bounce off the walls. If you do attempt to play with a standard paddle controller prepare to get your lunch handed to you by either online opponents or the cumputer AI.

Those of us lucky enough to be playing with a wheel, especially on a PC, are in for a real treat! :good:

Got my Ferrari Thrustmaster wheel (with paddle shifters) connected, F1 2010 loading (24 hours earlier than expected), prepared to have my ears and eyes reduced to a melted mess within 10 minutes of starting the game.... I'll let you all know what I think later on......  :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

The Momo wheel is a good wheel for the price, usually
under $100 US ad you can switch to a stick shifter though
it's only up and down to shift.A good set of gaming
headphones works too.

Went to a local gaming store Monday and asked
about when their getting it and the clerk said
it's not coming out in a pc version,oh well F1
in the US,maybe Best Buy will have it.

Ian a pc wheel doesn't take up much space,it
clamps down to the front of your desk

Well I now have a few hours gameplay under my belt and the verdict.  The sound in the replay mode leaves me un-impressed, however, the sound in cockpit mode at the start of the race is great.  The graphics are superb and you don't need a supercomputer to run at full graphical effect.

I have learned one thing in my tinkering.... I don't have what it takes to drive a car full speed around monaco. (that was just in grand prix mode not career)

In career mode I am driving for Toro Ross and have finished practice and qualy for my first race of the season, I'll start 8th on the grid tomorrow night for the race.

Perhaps I can get a grid game for my career mode... LOL

overall.... I'm very much liking it and believe the rest of you will too.

Rom
