Some wise words there from the old fox about seeing Vettel's progress through the lower ranks, and the differing use (or not) of team orders. Good to see John has not lost his enthusiasm for motorsport especially after his son Henry's death.

Not sure I sympathise as much about Ferrari's season, but then I've never had the call to drive for them. ;)    Thanks for posting that Dare you've made my day.  :good:

Even John S[urtees]that  is ,is hoping
the new rules improve overtaking and
I liked his comment on building new tracks
to allow it

Didn't Surtees have a problem with Ferrari  and leave
mid season to join Honda?

In 66 he had a row with Ferrari at Le Mans 24hrs about them switching him to another car instead of him partnering Mike Parkes, he left and joined the Cooper team for the rest of the F1 season. He still finished 2nd in the drivers championship having used two different makes in that season, joining Honda for the start of 67 season.

Absolutely Dare, he's in my top 3 from the 60s along with Jimmy and JYS.

I admire Surtees, but wouldn't say I'm a fan, I'll take Clark, G/P Hill and Gurney. Surperb drivers and classy gents all round.

In the 60's I liked Clark,Stewart,and Bandini.
G. Hill beating Jimmy at Indy might have played
a part in keeping him off my list.I've read a scoring
mistake gave Hill the win over Clark by the way

Lotus argued for years that the Indy scorers missed Clark on his pit stop. Clark himself said that he allowed Hill by without challenge because he thought Hill was unlapping himself. When the race ended Clark drove to Victory Lane only to find Hill already there. Clark was furious, saying he could have repassed Hill at any time if he had thought Hill was leading.
