Which Race To Attend
« on: March 02, 2011, 10:38:53 AM »
Me and the Mrs are thinking about going to a race this year with a friend of ours but can't decide which one. At least half way through the season would probably be best to give us a chance to budget for it (although we haven't actually set a budget yet).

We live in the UK but don't want to go to the British GP (been there done that and want to make a short break holiday out of it).

We want it to be a nice place to go to not just a good circuit/race.

We will probably spend 3 or 4 days there. Unless we decide to stay longer we wouldn't want to spend all day traveling so Australia for example would be out.

Any suggestions/recommendations?

Cheers guys (and gals)

I think based on time of year and distance it comes down to:

Turkey - never been to Turkey and didn't ever want to after my experience of Tunisia (thought the people would be similar) but the friend we're thinking of going with says we should see Istanbul.

Spain - been to Barcelona and other places in Spain before so probably not first choice.

Germany - been to Nurburgring and other places in Germany before so again probably not first choice.

Hungary - never been and don't know much about the place

Italy - going to Italy in July (near Florence) but that doesn't necessarily have a bearing on the decision

I got a good deal off F1.com Slugs, 4 nights BB, direct flights from London City airport to Milan and 3 days g/stand on the Parabolica foe £547, the hotel was a bit spartan but I went specifically for the GP and it was a bit of a journey to the circuit. It's certainly worth checking out F1.com as the gave the cheapest packages.

We love Turkey Slugs, been there 8 times but never been to Istanbul, we always found the Turks loved the English.

If you're thinking of doing Italy, first of all, I'll join you.  But Ian did have a trek to the circuit, so I would suggest you book your tickets, flight and hotel separately.  I don't think I paid any more than Ian for the hotel and tickets (my grandstand was covered, so maybe it was 30GBP or so more).  I had a hotel directly across from the main Milan train station...can't remember the name of it, but I could probably dig it up for you.

Only one I've been to.  I imagine Jeri could give you some good advice if you wanted to go to Montreal though...and it is supposed to be a fantastic race live.

My MD in work is talking about taking customers to Spa, as the general manager I would have to go too. Sweet.  :good:

Actually, I would love to go to Spa - but that weekend sucks for me.  I'm seriously considering Germany (instead of Italy this year) - anyone else been or want to go?
