Limewire sued for $75 Trillion!
« on: April 01, 2011, 05:51:04 PM »
This looks like another April Fools joke but it isn't.

The music industry has been trying to work out damages owed due to piracy for some time. Law.com reports on a case between a number of record companies and file-sharing website Limewire.

The record companies were asked to estimate the damages they should be paid and came up with anything between $400 billion and $75 trillion. Yes, that's $75,000,000,000,000. To put it another way, the estimated GDP of the entire world is about $60 trillion.

The presiding judge at the Manhattan federal district court, Judge Kimba Wood, didn't agree with the sums. Judge Wood labelled the record companies' request for damages as "absurd".

See how evil Limewire is?  the current world GDP is 60 trillion... and without limewire it would have been 135 trillion.

I bet HRT would use their share to qualify for a race.

I use MP3 Fiesta to download music. High quality files.  :good:

Their sister site Filmous is alright too for downloading movies, if they have what you want.

Ahh Limewire, the worlds biggest breeding ground for viruses. The world's PC users should also sue Limewire for $75 trillion for the number of viruses they have spread.

I know what you mean, Slugger. I had to clean up the mess it made on my daughter's PC.

Glad to hear it, My uncle a lawyer for Canadian Musician Rights, or something like that. In other words I've never got to use limewire or anything else illegal like that  :D

He always cringes at Christmas when we get blank CDs in our stockings!
