Massa & Coulthard drop 10 places

(1/2) > >>

Wizzo:
Felipe Massa and David Coulthard will lose 10 grid spots after qualifying at this weekend's Malaysian Grand Prix after their Ferrari V8 engines needed to be replaced following the Bahrain.

Coulthard stopped on the track but Massa appeared to finish OK. It was not until Ferrari inspected the engine they established it needed replacing.

Looks like its going to be a mixed bag already  :D

Slugger:
I thought if the engine broke down you were allowed to change it without penalty?

Coulthards must have broke down if he stopped on track.

Wizzo:
Each driver may use no more than one engine for two consecutive Grand Prix meetings.

If an engine change is required ahead of qualifying at either meeting, the driver will drop ten places on the grid for that event. If the change is made after qualifying, the driver goes to the back of the grid.

Slugger:
From the official FIA regulations....

"...Any driver who fails to finish the race at the first of the two events for reasons beyond the control of the team or driver, may start the second with a different engine without a penalty being incurred.."

So did Coulthard break down or just give up?

vanquish89:
It was reported that because Coulthard passed the chequered flag he had finished the race. You can only change the engine without penalty if one does not finish the race! So i read anyway  :)
