Would not want to argue the finer points of racing with Sir Stirling but 5% driver seems a bit harsh to me. I don't want to take anything away from earlier era's but they never had to take the pounding that todays drivers have to endure from G forces alone.
An aircraft landing is just a controlled crash.

Hi,Ian i  have gone through the quote to clarify things.
Question:
What about the contribution of the driver to car perfomance-people say it's as little as 10% today
with 90% being the car
Moss:
The driver made a greater contribution then,for sure.Fangio counted for more than Shumacher does.
I think we had 30-40 per cent to work with:
