Symonds now linked with top Ferrari job

Good move by Ferrari if true, shame though as I really hoped Williams would pick him up

Symonds now linked with top Ferrari job
(L to R): Pat Symonds (GBR) Renault Executive Director of Engineering with Flavio Briatore (ITA) Renault F1 Managing Director. Formula One World Championship, Rd 2, Malaysian Grand Prix, Preparations, Sepang, Malaysia, Thursday 2 April 2009.

Pat Symonds with Flavio Briatore

Jun.15 (GMM) Of late there has been a great deal of speculation regarding the Ferrari team’s senior staff and changes being planned at the highest level.

In Canada, the Maranello squad’s media guru Luca Colajanni slammed as “bullsh*t” a report on a Dutch website linking former Renault F1 team boss Flavio Briatore with Stefano Domenicali’s top job.

But in a subsequent report, f1today.nl acknowledged Colajanni’s admonition but quoted a source as saying that former Renault technical boss Pat Symonds is also linked with a senior role with the Italian team.

Symonds, who along with Briatore was ousted by Renault and banned from F1 for the Renault crashgate affair of 2009, returned to the sport this year as a consultant for the struggling Virgin Racing team. But they were also instrumental in Fernando Alonso’s two world titles with the French team in 2005 and 2006, at the expense of Ferrari.

Another scandal affected Formula 1 figure made headlines on Tuesday, as 2007 ‘spygate’ conspirator Mike Coughlan, who was sacked by McLaren and served a ban, started work at Williams.

“I would like to take this opportunity to apologise to everyone who was affected by my conduct,” he said. “I sincerely regret my actions and I fully accepted the penalty given to me by the FIA. I can only hope that I can earn back everyone’s respect.”

Hmm, would be a good appointment for Ferrari but I desperately want him to join Williams.  Him and Coughlan, what a team!  Seriously though I think they'd work well and Williams are crying out for some seriously good thinkers behind the scenes.

I hope this rumour is true :D

Pat is brilliant and was behind Fernando's two championships. I will cross my fingers for this one  :good:

Pat Symonds would be a very welcome member to the stable.  :good:

As long as it's not Flav!

As for his misdemeanor, I would say being under the command of Mr Briatore had a lot to do with that.
