Michelin's New 'Tyre war'
« on: February 01, 2007, 12:55:52 PM »
French tyre manufacturer Michelin has raced out of formula one and landed a $1.7 billion contract to exclusively supply the US military.

Instead of gripping drivers to grand prix victories, the ten-year deal will see Michelin shod tyres bolted to every single US Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine vehicle that is deployed around the world.

Michelin recently also won a $700m contract to supply US military planes, and reportedly invested more than $16 million to meet the surge in demand from Iraq.

"Michelin is ready to step up as the one-stop source for all military tyre needs," said Luc Minguet, COO of Michelin Americas Truck Tires.

Sure some of the tyres may be left over from last years F1 and the tyres might only last 200-300 km but what grip they will have.... lets see the terrorists match that.

Now all the American Military needs to do is invest in some top pit crews, handy for changing onto new rubber for those high speed escapes.......

can yall tell it's late at night now???

yes we can see that, somehow i think they will be using a different compound, and who knows this technology will stand them in good stead, when they return to F1.With Abu Dhabi mentioned eveywhere we may need a desert tyre?

Perhaps they could make rubber bullets out of the old tyres  :tease:
