Who do you admire most, not for their driving skills, but for their sheer courage in motorsport, or any sport?

Is it Niki Lauda for the way he came back from his injuries, Alessandro Zanardi for not ever letting his injuries beat him, maybe Derk Warwick for continuing racing after the spoort claimed his brother's life,  Martin Donnelly who drove a lotus 102, 21 years after it nearly claimed his, David Purley or Guy Edwards for their attempts to save Roger Williamson and Niki Lauda, or maybe looking beyond motorsports, Jesse Owens for his triumphs in the Berlin olympics in 1936, or even Lance Armstrong for overcoming cancer and coming back every bit as strong.

I admire all motorcycle road racers, as what they do is nothing short of amazing. However there are two names at the moment that stick out, Micheal & William Dunlop. Two of the fastest men on the road racing scene but also with one of the most tragic family stories. Both their father, Robert Dunlop, and their uncle, the world famous Joey Dunlop both lost their lives competing in the sport. Still they give it their all know the consequences of almost any mistake. True sporting heroes.  :good:

Also love Guy Martin, but he's just mental!

Rick Mears. He had an accident that mangled his feet so badly they considered amputating. he came back to win the Indy 500, though prior he was a great road racer and after he never won another road race because he could no longer work the pedals properly. By all accounts he is also a great human being who everyone likes and admires. his only fault I know of is that he is friends with Penske.  ;)

A driver I always admired and respected was
Clay Regazzoni. He raced for Ferrari, won Williams
first race, and sadly was left paralysed when his brakes
failed at Long Beach.

He never gave up and continued racing cars.Sadly he
died in a road accident a few years ago.

Mark Twain once opined, "it's easier to con someone than to convince them they've been conned."
