No Mission Impossible for Cruise in RBR F1 car
« on: August 23, 2011, 09:52:50 AM »

Over 24 laps Tom cracks 180mph, Coulthard 'thoroughly impressed'.  :swoon:

Bet 'Top Gear's Richard 'Hamster' is pig sick, he even failed to complete a proper lap in a Renault F1 car.  :D

Tom Cruise was given the opportunity to get behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car last week thanks to Red Bull Racing. The Hollywood A-list celebrity is an avid racing fan and has driven various racing cars over the years, but never an F1 car.

The Mission Impossible star jumped at the opportunity to be mentored by David Coulthard before completing 24-laps of the 2.5-mile Willow Springs race track in Rosamond, California.

Cruise managed to get close to Coulthard's top speed of 185mph, just missing out by 4mph. His final laps was over 11 seconds than his initial flyer, which led to Coulthard announcing that the 49-year-old had 'thoroughly impressed'.

"Tom's the real deal," said the Scotsman. "I was surprised that he picked it up so quickly and is such an accomplished driver.

"His recall was incredible considering how complicated driving an F1 car is. He's a guy who really pushes the envelope in real life. This day was not green screened. He thoroughly impressed me."

Hmm, never thought I'd say well done Tom.  :good:

Nick and Vitaly haven't gotten many proper laps out of this year's Renault, either.  ;)

Tom's trying to reverse the trend of F1 drivers going to NASCAR!

A vid has now been posted of Mr Cruise's drive at Willow Springs. He pushed enough to get into the dirt, and more suprisingly out again.

At least he's the right size for the job.

But then so is Hammond.

Rich Hall on Tom Cruise:

So true, eh?   :DD :DD

Pretty amazing day for him - gets to within 4mph of Coulthard in an F1 car and then just for fun does a roll and a loop in a Red Bull stunt copter.   :good: :good:
