A basic rule of crash investigations: If the pilot is dead & therefor unable to defend himself, it must have been pilot error!

Still, if there wasn't mech fault, and they found he clipped some trees while flying low level through a canyon, it just as well could have been that he perhaps shouldn't have been there in the first place.  Tragic that the kids were there too.
