Ferrari is building an 'unbeatable structure'
« on: September 08, 2011, 04:28:48 PM »
Not sure what he's going on about, but to me it seems like they need to track down the latest Byrne, or a Newey clone (a team of designers won't cut it - they need someone, one person with vision and know-how).  They obviously need help in the design office.

You've got to smile about the complacency Ferrari had after they showed well in the winter tests, they then found that they were really 1.4 secs adrift.

Perhaps they need someone who can factor in the sandbagging that other teams pull, could be a lot more use than a bigger design team.  ;)

The sport can't forever rely on one man designing the car.

I don't know that this change will help Ferrari in the near term, but eventually they'll stumble into a winning strategy... if nothing else they won't have to replace that one guy who's decided to move on to other challenges and win while other teams adjust  :DntKnw:

F1 has nearly always been dominated by 1 or 2 designers who simply produced better cars than the others. I think Honda and Toyota pretty well showed the futility of design by committee.

I agree, Lonny. Remember, a platypus is a dog designed by a committee. Most of the great cars were the results of the visions of individual designers. Carlo Chiti, Colin Chapman, Maurice Philippe, Byrne, Newey.....
