Red Bull and Renault
« on: September 09, 2011, 05:11:39 PM »
RBR have extended their engine deal with Renault for another five years.  As part of the deal there will be a two way flow of information and technology with Red Bull providing power trains for all Renault powered teams.

Looks like Red Bull have become the defacto works team, I wonder how Frank Williams will be feeling about that?

I wonder how Eric Boullier, Gerard Lopez and the "Renault" team at Enstone feel about it?

I'm sure it's a double sided coin... relief they don't have to do that out of their budget, but the sting of daddy liking the other son better.

If it wasn't for the odd naming rules, causing teams to lose money from FOM if they don't do it in the right way, the team would be called anything else, and Renault probably wishes it was. ;)

Renault washed their hands of the team when they sold it to Genii, they would have put more money in if they wanted to keep Enstone as a true works team.

It's the same crazy situation that Sauber found themselves in last year when they still had be called BMW, everyone knew the manufacturer was long gone.

This deal makes perfect sense. The Renault is obviously the right thing for Red Bull to have; why disturb a partnership that works so well?

I think Genii kinda prefer the Renault sticker as it likely helps them with other sponsorship.  I don't think they'll change the name until they HAVE to.
