Strange Things Done To Avoid Litigation
« on: September 14, 2011, 08:27:45 PM »
This all started in the Pirelli thread in the main Grand Prix forum area, as a tangent to a completely different conversation. When I saw the following:

Extending Ali's tangent, one of the most stupid is...Warning, may contain nuts. This is on a packet of peanuts.  :fool:

I thought it was too hilarious not to respond to but probably in the interests of the thread to make that reply in the humour thread where it belongs.

Other bizarre warnings I've seen that surely must have been due to fear of litigation:

Warning: Sleeping pills may cause drowsiness

Fire extinguisher. Caution - non-flammable

Rain guage suitable for outdoor use

Air Conditioner. Avoid dropping out of window

500-piece jugsaw. Some assembly required

Rat Poison. Has caused cancer in laborotory mice.

Lighter Fluid. Warning - Flammable

Salt. Warning - Contains Salt

And finally:

Fruit Muffin. Contains flour, sugar, baking soda, a whole bunch of minor artificial ingredients, colour, flavouring. May contain nuts and fruit.

no wonder I was having a hard time getting the answers
Mark Twain once opined, "it's easier to con someone than to convince them they've been conned."

Quite :D

I think the only answer is to find some way of inducing common sense in everyone...

The people at whom these warnings were aimed (and possibly me as well)?

My favourite was on a giant birthday badge which had "I am 3"  and on the back said not suitable for children under 5 years old...  :D
